Snow Removal in KW: What's Actually Included and What to Ask Before You Sign Up

Not all snow removal services are the same, and it's worth knowing what you're getting before the season starts. We get a lot of calls in December from homeowners who signed up with someone in October and are now discovering the service isn't quite what they expected. Here's what to look for and what to ask.
What Should Be Included
A proper residential snow removal service should cover your driveway, your front walkway, and your entrance to the door. Those are the three areas that affect daily life the most — getting the car out, getting the mail, and getting visitors to the front door safely. Some services only clear the driveway and leave the walkway to you. That's worth confirming upfront.
At KW Lawn Mowing we clear driveways, sidewalks, and entrances as part of the standard service. We also offer salting and ice control as an add-on, which we genuinely recommend for anyone with a shaded driveway or a north-facing front walk that tends to stay icy.
When Do They Show Up
This is the question most people forget to ask. Some services have a trigger depth — they only come out if more than a certain amount of snow has fallen. We come out automatically for anything over 2.5 centimetres. That might sound like a low bar but in KW that thin layer of snow is often what turns into compacted ice overnight. Staying on top of small accumulations keeps the surface cleaner and safer all season.
Ask any service you're considering: what's the trigger depth, and do they come automatically or do you have to call?
How Billing Works
Snow removal billing varies a lot. Some services charge a flat monthly rate regardless of how many times they come. Others bill per visit. At KW Lawn Mowing we bill per visit, and we ask for a ten visit deposit at the start of the season. That deposit draws down as visits are completed, so you're always paying for actual service rather than a guess at how bad the winter will be.
Per-visit billing is more fair in a light winter. Flat-rate billing can be better value in a heavy one. Neither is wrong — just know which one you're signing up for.
What to Watch Out For
A few things that are worth asking about before committing to any snow removal service in KW:
Are they insured? If a crew member is injured on your property or causes damage, you want to know there's coverage in place.
Do they have enough crews to service their route when a big storm hits? A single operator with 60 driveways is going to have a hard time getting to everyone after a 20 centimetre overnight dump.
